The Honda Elevate debuted in India on the 6th of June, marking the Japanese automaker’s most significant entry into the D-segment since the BR-V launched a few years ago. With bookings set to open in July and a launch during the festival season, the Elevate aims to take on a formidable rival, the Hyundai Creta, which kick-started the D-SUV trend in 2015 and continues to dominate the segment. In this article, we’ll explore what Elevate brings to the table in its competition against Creta.
Common Features:
The Honda Elevate measures 4.31 meters in length, 1.69 meters in height, and 1.79 meters in width, with a crucial wheelbase of 2.65 meters. On the other hand, the Hyundai Creta has dimensions of 4.30 meters in length, 1.79 meters in height, and 1.63 meters in width, with a wheelbase of 2.61 meters. The Elevate offers a boot space of 458 litres, while the Creta provides 433 litres. Though the Elevate seems larger on paper, the differences aren’t significant, and the actual test lies in the cabin roominess, ingress and egress ease, and boot usability.
Features:
Both cars come packed with expected segment features such as a 10.25-inch infotainment display, climate control with rear vents, leatherette upholstery, reach and rake adjustable steering wheel, wireless charging, and connected car technology with voice assistant. While the Elevate gains lane watch assist and ADAS, the Creta offers a power driver’s seat, a cooled glovebox, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. However, the Creta is scheduled for a significant update in 2024, expected to include ADAS and a whole digital cluster like its three-row sibling, the Alcazar.
Engine and Gearbox Options:
The Honda Elevate is powered by Honda’s BS6 2 RDE 1.5-litre iVTEC petrol engine, generating 119bhp/145Nm, available with a six-speed manual or a CVT. Honda does not plan to introduce a diesel or hybrid variant for the Elevate; instead, it plans to launch an Elevate BEV in 2026, aligning with its objective of introducing five new SUVs in India by 2030.
Meanwhile, the current Hyundai Creta has a BS6 2 RDE compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 113bhp/144Nm, mated to a six-speed manual or a CVT. The diesel variant has a 1.5-litre four-pot engine producing 115bhp/250Nm, with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic. The updated Creta model, slated for launch next year, is expected to replace the current 1.4-litre turbo with a 1.5-litre turbo producing 158bhp/253Nm, available with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT. While the Creta offers a broader range of powertrains, the Elevate plans to introduce an all-electric variant.
Pricing:
The Honda Elevate is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 10 lakhs to Rs. 17 lakhs (ex-showroom), while the Hyundai Creta’s range stretches from Rs. 10.87 lakh to Rs. 19.20 lakh for the fully loaded diesel automatic variant.
Conclusion:
Both the Honda Elevate and Hyundai Creta come equipped with several standard features such as LED headlights and taillights, six airbags, a wireless phone charger, an electric sunroof, leatherette seats, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Elevate stands out with its extensive list of Level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, and adaptive cruise control, setting it apart from the Hyundai Creta.
